$40k for a injury settlement?

I injured my back while on the job, and had a spinal fusion done. I had t 12 through L 1 fused together. and now almost two years later my settlement is almost coming to an end. I did hire a lawyer and he sent me to another doctor to even out my disability rating compared to what the workmens comp doctor had given me. The workmens comp lawyers are offering 37k. my concern is that this doesn't seem like it is enough. now this is not me trying to be greedy I just want to make sure that I am not getting screwed.
